ACTOR KIDNAPS DIRECTOR

Amjath, who made his acting debut with the film Kathiri Veyil, is being subjected to police enquiry following an alleged kidnap and extortion complaint. The actor, who also produced Kathiri Veyil, was angry with the film’s director Rupesh Paul following the film turning out to be a dud at the box office.

In order to make good the losses he had incurred, Amjath decided to kidnap Rupesh and extort Rs. 20 lakhs. He worked out a plan and kidnapped Rupesh along with three of his accomplices. Rupesh’s family finally handed over Rs. 20 lakhs to procure his release. This was disclosed during the police investigation.

It is worth mentioning here that Rupesh had directed the Malayalam film Laptop with Suresh Gopi, which turned out to be a hit before directing Kathiri Veyil.

  1. The police found out about the case which occurred one year ago when Amjad, an accused in several cases, was arrested recently.

One version of the incident has that Amjad, who produced 'Kathiriveyil' and acted a role in it, was very angry at Rupesh Paul, the director of the film, as he hadnot get a chance to be with the extras. The director was kidnapped and taken to Pollachi and was cruelly beaten up. Later, the kidnappers contacted Rupesh's father and demanded Rs 20 lakh. When they got the money they had asked for, they let Rupesh go. It is also said that his tormentors had some videos with them in which the director appeared in compromising positions.

Rupesh Paul said he had co-produced 'Kathiriveyil' with Amjad as he had no idea about the criminal back ground of him. Amjad came forward to help when his film was facing financial problems. "When the film was complete, Amjad kidnapped me and made me transfer the rights of the film in his name," he alleged. The incident took place on 2009 September 26. "Somebody kicked me on my head with his boots and I became unconscious. Then they made me sign six stamp papers and filmed me in the nude," Rupesh said. He said a total of Rs 45 lakh was extorted from him by the gang.

The director said that he kept mum on the issue as he was fearful of the criminal gang and was worried about the possible loss of his prestige.

Rupesh is all set to direct a multi-lingual film on Dracula soon.

  2. A lesser known actor by name Amjath, who acted in Kathiri Veyyil has kidanpped director Rupesh Paul!

Incidentally Rupesh Paul was also the director of Kathiri Veyyil film.

Amjath allegedly demanded a sum of 20 lakhs to release Rupesh! The family memebrs of Rupesh gave the demanded amount and got him released!

But the police though their investigations found out that Amjath was behind this and got him arrested! This shows that there is no integrity among the new breed of people who are entering the film industry.
