Pokkiri Raja Review-Your Typical Masala Entertainer

Pokkiri Raja is directed by Vyshakh Abraham, and stars Mammootty,Prithviraj, and Shriya Saran in the lead. Others include Nedumundi Venu,Siddique, and Riyaz Khan. The movie marked the Debut of Shriya in Malayalam too. :)

Story: The movie begins with a flashback of Mammooty and Prithvi of when they were little. They are involved in little gang fights, which evolves into a big one, and one of their rivals gets killed. Mammooty takes the blame for it and goes to jail(neither Mammooty nor Prithvi did it). When he comes out of jail, he ends up fighting with the rival's family, and runs away to Madhurai in Tamilnadu. There he grows up to be a good don,for the people. Prithvi is an educated, and energetic guy, in his village. He goes to Ernakulam to his brother in law, whose always scared. There he sees Shriya and falls in love with her not knowing she is the police commissioner's(Siddique) daughter. I think you can imagine whats next,so lets move on.

Cast-
Mammooty-Pokkiri Raja
Prithviraj-Surya
Shriya-Ashwathi
Nedumundi Venu- Madhavan Nair
Siddque-Police Commissioner
Suraj-Sugunan
Salim Kumar-Manoharan
Riyaz Khan-Home Ministers son

The movie is just like any other Tamil or Telugu movie with its mass masala as in: Fights, dances, songs, dialogues, and so-on. But the story was nothing new: two brothers, one bro runs away, then they meet again in another place, the big brother saves the little one. Surprise,Surprise. :P

The first half was Prithvi's show, because we don't see Mamootty until a couple of minutes before the interval. He was cool,he beat up a lot of people. lol :D He looked attractive in the movie :D, when he was going behind Shriya :D. He seemed to put a lot of power into his role because it was so energetic and BOOM! Sorry, didn't know how to describe it :D Mammooty was normal, and funny. :D He had a funny mustache , people called it a Walrus kind of mustache :D He also had this broken english which was hilarious :D The way he danced was werid, to say the truth, it was so slow, all he did was stomp the floor. But he was at his best in the song Kettile Kettile. :D He looked very good in the movie,I mean he looked really young. Mostly his costume was a white Dhoti, with a white shirt. He was the comedy factor of this movie :D Now,we come to Shriya, she didn't need to do anything but look pretty, and dance. I am not kidding :) She did those to very well so she was also good in the movie :D But I thought she looked too skinny though, she was soo pretty in the Kettile Kettile song :D She barely had any dialogues, but she cried well. :) She also did a good job looking amazed at Prithvi and Mammooty in the film. :) :) Suraj and Salim were hilarious, they made the movie hilarious along with Mammooty. :D

Mammooty said the dialogue: " raja seiradha sollava sollradhu mattumtha sevai" It instantly reminded me of Rajinikanths dialogues! I still think that they took it from a Rajini movie, but I can't tell which one! :D I thought: well, thats a rip-off!

Music: The music did not sound anything like Malayalam music, it was more like Tamil music with Malayalam lyrics to it. I'm not saying that it was bad, but I felt it didn't have Malayali nativity to it. Oh my gosh, the title song "Maickya Kalli" sounded like a straight rip-off from the Tamil song Pokkiri Pongal from Pokkiri I am not kidding!! Its your normal "praise the hero" type of song. Other than that everything seemed original. My favs were Kettile Kettile and Chenthengil Ponnilaneeru.

The songs are well Choreographed especially Kettile Kettile,Chenthengil Ponnilaneeru, and Manikya Kalli. They match the beats with the dance moves :D Its nice how Kettile Kettile features the whole cast, except of course the villains. lol :D Shwetha Menon and Rachana Maurya did guest appearances: Shwetha in Manickya Kalli and Rachana in Chenthengil.

The movie is action packed, with romance and comedy. This is definitely a family entertainer, and a racy movie, but kind of illogical. But still a fun entertainer that anyone can watch! :D Also if you don't know Malayalam well, its not a big deal, becuase the malayalam they use in the movie is close to Tamil, so All iz Well :) :) But if you don't know Tamil either, your in a fix ;)
