Rowthiram Movie Review-Action Packed..

Rowthiram stars Jeeva and Shriya Saran in the lead roles, and many others in supporting roles(literally many). Its written and directed by a debutante Gokul, and cinematography by N. Shanmugasundaram; another debutante Prakash Nikki scores the music.

Story: Shiva(Jiiva) is an angry young man who lives by his grandfather's(Prakash Raj) philosophy of life; which is: If something wrong happens in front of your eyes, question it, in other words don't just sit there! do something! But his parents(Jayaprakash and Lakshmi R.) are totally against it, they just want him to be "normal". Priya(Shriya Saran) sees his boldness and falls for him,in the meantime he gets tangled up with criminals(Ganesh Acharya) and Gowri....

Performances: Being Shiva is a breeze for Jiiva,he most certainly seems to have improved in the action department. He also has moduled his voice to suit the role of an angry man. Priya could most possibly be one of the best roles in Shriya has played in her career. Her role had a bit of scope, and was not a glamorous role, neither was she clad in clothing from head to toe. She did what was needed, yet in some places was just okay. Jiiva and Shriya had neat chemistry. Jayaprakash,Lakshmi R., Srinath, and whoever played his sis played well has Jiiva's family, in the film. Sathyan provides a good comic relief in the first half.Ganesh Acharya was wasted, he was lost after a song. Babu Antony wasn't bad as Shriya's father.  The dude who played Gowri, did what he was supposed too. Prakash Raj and director Gokul make guest appearneces which they are obviously not bad at.

Direction: Gokul is not at all bad as a debutante, though the movie did have its share of flaws, but give him a break, its his first film. In an action packed film, he has managed to give enough scope to the actress of the film, which should be applauded.

Cinematography:  N. Shanmugasundaram cinematography was not too great,it was okay.

Music: Prakash Nikki who is also a newcomer is commendable in his department of work. Malai Mangum Neram is definitely the pick of every music lover, actually no, its everyones pick(applause for Ranina Reddy, the singer of the song).Adiye un Kangal, Sengathal,Golimaare are nice, foot tapping numbers.

Pros:

  • Suitable Cast
  • Not bad direction for the 1st time.
  • Malai Mangum Neram song
  • Jiiva and Shriya's chemistry
  • Jiiva's improvement
  • Good music
  • Heroine is given importance
Cons:

  • Okay Story
  • Not much comedy
  • Cinematography
  • Ganesh Acharya's role
  • A couple of dialogues weren't given needed pauses, and some weren't justified with certain expressions, if that makes sense.
  • Long fight scenes

Finally...: The first half had everything from action to romance to comedy to sentiment, but the second half started to get a bit more serious, so it lacked comedy and much sentiment. No harm done in watching it once, definitely not a boring or bad film. So, go for it :)

Rating: 3/5

  1. I thought it was a decent film. The idea behind the movie is good, but the execution could have been better. I hadn't known he was a debutante director, so I think he must have had a hard time because it was his first film. Knowing that I think he got off to a good start, with further films he might be able to show some promise.

    Oh and nice wallpaper.
